I’ve read Rippetoe’s book “starting strength” and have gotten instruction from a personal trainer to apply the lifting techniques correctly.

Rippetoe recommends that we focus on Seven excercises as part of a weight training practice. They are:

  1. Squat
  2. Bench Press
  3. Deadlift
  4. Press
  5. Power Clean
  6. Chins
  7. Barbell curls [optional]

As of Nov 2017, I’m getting back into training three times a week by applying Stronglifts 5x5 routine. I believe this is a simple and easy to follow routine to get confusion about “what/when” etc., out of the way.

By combining these two techniques, this is my current workout routine:

Even after adjusting for other variables, thigh circumference seems to hold up as an independent predictor of cardiometabolic health and early death. Bigger thighs = better (25 inches or larger have the lowest risk). Time to hit the squat rack, people.
